All of us get in situations that are difficult that we want to fix, preferably quickly. But what should be our first response? Instead of increasing our efforts, we need to put our plans before the Lord and surrender them. Try telling Him, “I want to fix things my way, but instead I will lay down my efforts and trust you with the solution.” If we keep going our own way with our fix-it plans, it often gets worse and we dig deeper in the hole. Even as I write this, we have a situation out of our control that I would like to do something about; but instead I am listening to my husband and giving it to the Lord. Isn’t that what He wants all along: that we give everything to Him and receive His perfect plans?
I read in my devotions from John 12:4-5, “Listen carefully: Unless a grain of wheat is buried in the ground, dead to the world, it is never any more than a grain of wheat. But if it is buried, it sprouts and reproduces itself many times over. In the same way, anyone who holds on to life just as it is destroys that life. But if you let it go, reckless in your love, you’ll have it forever, real and eternal.” It is so important that we die to ourselves, our plans, and come to rest in the Lord! Like that grain of wheat, we are willing to bury our plans and let the Lord surprise us. When it sprouts, it may be nothing like what we had in mind.
